CHEECHABLE TOP PICKS: Oregon Cannabis

2019 has been awesome! Full of great parties and even greater lessons. Cannabis is an amazing plant and the industry is filled with some really beautiful, clever people. This year we’ve smoked over 3 lbs of flower, 1 oz of concentrate and eaten 15 lbs of edibles. Yeah, we’re pretty happy over here and immensely grateful for this community.

People often ask for our opinions on products, what our favorite flower is or which dispensary to hit up, so we decided to make a list of our favorites here in Portland, Oregon. Each of these organizations or products listed are one hundred percent from our personal experiences and interactions and in no way sponsored or solicited.

Dispensaries

Going to a rando dispensary is always a gamble. You never know what products or service might be lurking behind that door. Luckily for us, we have some amazing dispensaries here in Portland that carry a wide variety of top notch purveyors with great safe products.

  1. TJ’s on Powell has everything you could ever need with killer service and a generous loyalty program.

  2. Jayne is the local for us, always great service and products, plus they do a TON for the community.

  3. Archive is a special place. Stellar clone and hash situations abound, great folks behind the counter that know their shit.

  4. Homegrown Apothecary is a dispensary with HIGH standards! Great specials running all the time. This is where you’re going to find the most clean and sustainable products.

Concentrate

2019 was the year of the Concentrate for us! We were flower babies before we met rosin, man has that been a game changer! No more smoking 20 bong hits or an entire joint just to get your mind right. A little or big dab and you’re all set!

  1. Grasse Co. is our top pick because these guys are just cool. They work with farms who are growing with integrity and they are all about getting a product that is as close to the flower as possible. Amazing rosin and don’t miss out on their strain specific prerolls that combine rosin and flower in one fantastic smoke.

  2. Archive is where the dope drops…seriously great hash, outstanding genetics, and did we mention the cosmically perfect hash?!

  3. Nelson and Co., we’ve sampled the edibles and we want to go back for your concentrate in 2020. These are some solid folks and we can’t wait to see more of them in the future.

  4. Verdant Leaf, these new kids on the block in 2019 have some phenomenal genetics and are getting into the solventless game. We’ve sampled the goods, and can’t wait to get our hands on more.

Extract

While we definitely prefer concentrate, we dabble in extracts from time to time. The key here is cleanliness, not only in the process, but also in the flower and quality of solvents being used. Keep an eye out for any shady business with gross weed, dangerous extraction processes and operations without integrity. Some brands to absolutely avoid are anything with the names SELECT, SOCIAL or CURA attached to it. Bless.

  1. Echo Electuary are creating some really beautiful textures in the extract game. They work with top notch farms and their support for bees is absolutely admirable! Look out for their gorgeous and thoughtful packaging in most Oregon dispensaries.

  2. Sterling Gold from the majestic fields of Lion Tree Farms, these are some of the most loved genetics extracted and bottled special for choice enjoyment.

  3. Farmer’s Friend Extract is clean, clean, clean. These are solid products from folks that are constantly bringing high standards of purity with all the dankness of your favorite strains.

  4. Open Vape cartridges are nice because they always have some fun strain choices and farm collaborations. Keeping an eye out for the next drop!

Edibles

We love to make big batches of oil at home and add it to everything from pasta and salads to baked goods. Sometimes it’s good to go out and get a little treat, and these are the top of the line most worthy of pure indulgence. Each of these are made from concentrate to ensure a smooth ride…

  1. Toro Ma is the OG of the CBD and 1:1 edible. Going back to the medical days, these folks have perfected the ratio for ideal consumption. We love their chocolates and the new/new Hella Burnt caramels are the dopest cleanest experience yet!

  2. Hapy Kitchen has a spectacular selection of gummies, caramels, chocolate, energy bars and tinctures! We are the most stoked on their award winning caramel and coffee combo and Uplift tincture to start the day.

  3. Laurie and MaryJane is killing it with Go Fudge Yourself bars and all of their yummy treats. Our most favorite and hard to find is the fruity nut bar.

  4. Crop Circle Chocolates these gorgeous edibles are so stunning, please go treat yourself if you can find these. They make awesome gifts and the taste is out of this world!

Specialty Items

Smokeable, topical or drinkable, sometimes we just like a novelty item or something that can’t quite be categorized.

  1. Infused No 5 literally changed our lives this summer. We were able to turn it up wherever we went. This tidy preroll contains flower and rosin from the same strain all rolled up in a gorgeous tea leaf. The taste is fire, the smoke is delightful and the vibe will keep any party going.

  2. Sway CBD slims are elegant prerolls with hemp flower inside hemp paper. Have you smoked out of hemp paper before? It is a truly smooth and buttery smoke. We keep ‘em stocked up just because you never know when you’ll need to adjust your vibe.

  3. Baptiste topical balm by Toro Ma is a velvety topical for your skin. We are fanatics about skin products and think that Toro Ma really went for it in this little tin. The texture is great and if you have psoriasis or eczema, definitely treat yourself to this balm!

  4. Legal Beverages for being an extract based “edible” is a surprisingly refreshing and effective THC treat. These come in a bunch of fun flavors to drink straight or use as a mixer with your favorite beverages.

Farms

We think it is really important to know your grower. While this isn’t practical for everyone or every flower, here are some farms we know, love and trust. Each of these farms are producing as close to or better than organic standard and only release the finest flower to be grown in Oregon.

  1. Alter Farms are so stinkin’ cute and their flower kills it harvest after harvest. We’re such fans of them after being paired with a couple strains during the 2019 Cultivation Classic. Texas Butter and Space Jogger are some of our top picks for flower, but it is hard to choose with these awesome genetics. This is a farm to watch for some cool outdoor innovations!

  2. Liontree Farm is an anomaly as a typical cannabis farm. This outdoor operation is on a steep hillside and resembles a vineyard more than a cannabis field. Good thing the plants actually freakin love it and Aaron sends it with classic and fun experimental genetics. Our favorite flower includes Cherry Limeade and Puu Tang!

  3. Bull Run always comes through with the classics, plus you can find their flower in the infused prerolls (bonus!) This indoor farm always keeps the hits coming with our all time favorites Silver Tip and the 1:1 Lite Me Up.

  4. Meraki Gardens is the bomb for fun new strain combos and truly thoughtful cannabis. This indoor farm is all about rituals and respect for the plant and universal truths. We love the classic MAC!

Cultural Influencers

We’re so not into vanity accounts or shady business efforts that seem to be around every corner of the emerging cannabis industry. That’s why we felt it was important to call out the real cultural influencers, the organizations that are shaping policy and creating abundant communities.

  1. Tokeativity is the girl gang we all want to be a part of, and you can! These bad ass women of cannabis are curating events and communities of women all around the world. This is a great support network and place for multi-faceted cannabis resources.

  2. The Initiative is shaping the cannabis future by giving cannabis businesses the opportunities to launch, scale or improve their businesses. What a delight to see the folks that go through this program! Keep an eye on this space!

  3. ORCA stands for Oregon Retailers of Cannabis Association and is packed with some serious lobbying power. These are the folks to thank for cannabis policy reform on state and federal levels. Thank you, ORCA!

  4. Cultivation Classic and partners Smart Cannabis are revolutionizing the way consumers understand genetics and how producers can work better with consumer needs. Check out their annual award ceremony, we were a judge this year and hope to participate again in 2020!

Devices

We’ll roll our own or hit that bong on the reg, but sometimes a little electronic help is just more convenient. That’s why we wanted to call out our favorite devices for consuming flower, concentrate and sometimes extract.

  1. Boundless Technology Terp Pen is a game changer. Seriously. You can get hella baked on rosin or hash and keep it clean and discreet. We’ve tried other nectar collectors and this one surpasses the functionality of the rest. Ceramic coil heats efficiently, no button inhale only simplicity, FATTY tokes all day and simple clean up. My favorite is that it charges in 20 minutes or less!

  2. Pax2 was getting a little boring until I started bombing the flower with concentrate. Pax came out with a Pax3 that had the capability to change out the oven to concentrate. That was kind of wonky because you have to hold it a certain way or the concentrate will leak out. With Pax2 I just load it up with flower half way, pop a scoop of concentrate on top, and then top it off with some more flower until full. This makes the portable sesh last a whole lot longer and the taste will knock your socks off!

  3. Puffco are super fun little dab rigs. Honestly, the thought of torching anything seems too industrial for day to day consumption. We like the Puffco because it is compact, clean and convenient for dabbing all day or just taking the edge off time to time.

  4. Open Vape really RIPS! Holy crap, this battery is impressive. No button, draw to inhale simplicity, temperature settings and no limit to how much you can vape in one inhale. If you’ve got the lung power, this is the cartridge battery you need.

Places to Smoke

While consumption in public is still very much illegal, some private organizations are hosting events and encouraging attendees to light up. Thank you to all the folks who are leading the charge and keeping it 100 for the cannabis community.

  1. Prism House is in a brand spanking new location and hosting parties like a champ. This is the home to the amazing organization Tokeativity and opens their doors to anyone with chill vibes looking to contribute to an awesome community.

  2. The Commune is a cosmopolitain delight. Work space by day and event space by night, this is were you’ll find the high society crowd. This is also home to The Initiative and Oregon Cannabis Association!

  3. SESH, okay, okay…. Shameless self promotion alert! Seriously though, we opened our studio in 2019 because there was no place to consume in NE Portland. Now there is, NBD! While we’ve stopped doing events, you can always hit us up for a chill sesh anytime!

  4. NW Cannabis Club is kind of out of the way of our regular routine, but we try to make it out when there’s a special event! This space has been providing a safe place to consume to the cannabis community for a long time and we’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds for consumption spaces like these!
